Working Genius vs Meyers Briggs (MBTI)
Q: We recently completed an MBTI assessment session for our senior leadership and were wondering if The Table Group has any materials to support the integration of MBTI and Working Genius.
A: In terms of their similarities, both assessments are very helpful for avoiding guilt and judgement, understanding how we work with others, and encouraging team members to be more vulnerable. So, the Working Genius and MBTI do complement each other, but we would hesitate to call it ‘integration’ because they measure different things.
Working Genius is focused on what types of work give people energy and joy, while the MBTI is focused on personal behaviors and tendencies. Working Genius informs how someone might succeed in a given role, how they fit into a team, and where they can best add value, but it doesn’t go quite as deep into interpersonal tendencies as the MBTI does. That’s a relatively simplistic way to describe the main difference between the two tools, but it should help inform the way that they are used within an organization.
